Our Expert Review

Service [?]

Fabienne and her staff work very hard to satisfy their guests. There is always someone around for any request or help you might need, always welcomed with a smile.

Excellent

Cleanliness [?]

The rooms are very clean, as the housekeeping clean them everyday. The beach area is also taken care of several times a day.

Excellent

Rooms [?]

The rooms are nice and spacious. They're a close to each other and to the public beach area, so privacy is compromised. There's Wifi in all rooms but no TV.

Good

Beach and Pool [?]

The beach in front of the resort is one of the nicest and liveliest parts of Bounty Beach but can be a little crowded at times. There is no pool however and that's why we gave it 3 stars on our ranking.

Good

Location [?]

The best sea front resort on Bounty Beach, and the liveliest during the daytime and evening. Not as private as resorts in other beaches.

Very good

Value for Money [?]

Excellent location and amazing service but the friendly and helpful staff. Resorts in Malapascua aren't cheap, but at least here you know you will get your money's worth.

Very good

On our first visit to Malapascua, right after we checked in our hotel we decided to go to the beach for dinner and drink to refresh from the long way. It was on the low season, and most beach bars and restaurants were sleepy and empty. Not Ocean Vida, the beach bar was lively and happy, and the chill out area on the beach was almost full. The upstairs restaurant wasn’t full due to the season but still it was busy.

Ocean Vida has a diverse menu of Italian, Thai and Filipino dishes (and some more). The rule of thumb for such situations is that the food is going to be decent at best, but surprisingly Ocean Vida’s food is delicious and consistent. Don’t expect anything gourmet, but the ambience is always nice and happy and the service is great too. In fact, we mostly eat our dinners there whenever we’re in Malapascua.

Ocean Vida has 20 rooms and 3 room types. The most popular rooms are the 12 Sea View Rooms. Located in a 2 story building and each room has a private veranda facing the ocean. It can’t be closer to the beach as there are about 20 steps between you and the water. The only downside to it though, is that due to the popularity of this specific part of the beach, there will always be people hanging out in front of your veranda, from morning to late evening.

Therefore, if you want more privacy or silence you can stay in the Garden View Rooms. There are 8 garden rooms in total. They have the same size as the Sea View Rooms, and has the same facilities, and are on the ground floor. These rooms also function as Family rooms, as each pair of rooms has a door connecting them.

Each room has a king size bed in it, and spacious enough to fit another single bed for a child or another adult. So the Family rooms can fit 2 adults and up to 4 kids. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fan, free-Wifi, hot and cold shower, balcony, mini-bar, and a safety box.

The resort does not have a spa, but it shares some of the services of Buena Vida Resort (the younger sister of Ocean Vida), which has the best spa in Malapascua. Ocean Vida’s guests are also welcome to join the daily yoga classes, and enjoy the nanny services (for kids) of Buena Vida. It’s only a 5 minute walk between the 2 resorts and the reception of Ocean Vida will take care of your requests regarding the usage of those services.

The other really good feature of Ocean Vida beside of its location is the in-house dive club. Sea Explorers is a veteran and professional dive shop in Malapascua. For those who want to be very close to their dive club it’s a big plus. Especially if you’re a solo traveler, you’re sure to make good friends, as you will see and spend time with fellow divers/ diving course buddies both underwater and outside.

Though the resort ranks highly and for a reason, there are some small details that can be better

  • Can be too noisey at times

Ocean Vida is not a divers’ only resort, and you can choose to stay here whether you plan to dive or not. Moreover you can do your dives elsewhere if you have friends who stay in a different resort or dive somewhere else, and you want to go with them.

A buffet breakfast is included in the room price, and includes freshly baked bread and pastries, eggs, beans, bacon and cold cuts, cheese, fruit, coffee and tea. It’s served from 07:30 just right after people return from the thresher shark dive, and until 10:00. The restaurant is open since that time and until 10:00pm.

The beach bar is another nice thing about Ocean Vida, and it’s open 08:00am-11:00pm. You can enjoys fruit-shakes all day long as well as a variety of cocktails and drinks. The happy hour is 04:00-06:00pm, and 09:00-21:00pm every day – with a buy 1 take 2 promotion on a variety of cocktails. It’s a great place to unwind after a long hard day of scuba diving or beach bumming, and meet new people even if you’re not staying in the resort itself.

Ocean Vida Beach & Dive resort is perfect for divers and people who want to stay directly on the beach and in the middle of action. During your stay you’ll enjoy good quality rooms and services for a good price, without compromising on the location. It is one of the best resorts Bounty Beach area.
